Balvaird Castle

By the A912 north of Gateside with a small car park next to the road

Perched atop a hill, this is a L plan tower house of 1500 with a later gatehouse from 1581. The inside has somewhat capricious opening hours, but the outside is charming and worth a visit.

The owners the Earls of Mansfield left it for Scone Palace.
