The tour
From Edinburgh this tour travels north west, passing Stirling Castle, through the lands of the MacGregors (Rob Roy's country) and the Campbells, over Rannoch Moor and the Black Mount to awesome, tragic Glencoe - the setting for myth, misdeed and magnificence.
The tour then enters the Great Glen beneath Britain's highest mountain, Ben Nevis, hugging canal, river and loch-side past Fort Augustus tracing the 24 mile shoreline of Loch Ness, passing Urquhart Castle.
Here, you may wish to visit the castle - a spot made famous by many sightings of the monster - followed by a cruise on the mysterious and legendary waters of Loch Ness: the option is yours.
At Inverness the tour turns for home, traversing the Grampians and the Forest of Atholl with a choice of refreshment stops en route.
